Model Alanna Pow Shares Painful Experience After Botched Surgeries

A model from Australia has shared her harrowing experience following two botched Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBLs) in Turkey, ultimately leading her to spend £43,000 to correct the procedures. Alanna Pow, a former flight attendant, underwent her first surgery abroad with high hopes, only to face a brutal recovery that left her unable to sit for weeks.

Pow, 22, detailed her surgeries in a candid social media post, warning others about the risks of discount surgery deals abroad. She described the aftermath of her initial surgeries as devastating, claiming her bottom and thighs were “butchered.” After investing £18,000 and making two extensive 6,500-mile trips to Turkey, she realized the risks outweighed the benefits.

Unfortunate Results from Overseas Surgeries

“I wouldn’t recommend Turkey – I feel like I’ve been botched,” Pow stated, reflecting on her experience. With over three million followers on Instagram, her message carries significant weight. The first doctor allegedly removed too much fat from her lower thighs, resulting in uneven contours that caused her daily insecurity.

Pow explained that her decision to choose the clinic was influenced by another influencer’s endorsement, alongside the ease of booking the procedure. “Within a month, I was under the knife,” she recalled. The second clinic in Turkey further enticed her with a complimentary nose job as part of the BBL deal. While the rhinoplasty healed without issue, the buttock surgeries resulted in long-lasting complications.

During her time in Turkey, Pow received round-the-clock care in a hospital for three nights, with nurses managing her recovery. In contrast, her experience in Australia was markedly different. The Australian surgeon performed the surgery as an outpatient procedure, sending her home just two hours later with oral pain medication.

Striking a Balance Between Cost and Safety

Pow described the recovery process in Australia as challenging, particularly due to the open drains used post-surgery, which made her recovery feel endless and messy. The surgeon required her to book a business class seat for her flight home to minimize pressure on her body.

Her Australian surgeon also mandated daily lymphatic massages for six weeks, an additional cost of £120 each. In Turkey, she was advised to have only two massages per week after the first two weeks. Despite the significant financial investment and the rigorous recovery process, Pow expressed satisfaction with the results of her most recent surgery.

“The results speak for themselves. In Australia, they use Vaser liposuction, which tightens the skin, whereas my doctor in Turkey definitely didn’t do that,” she emphasized. After her final surgery, she noted improvements in her body shape, including wider hips and a smaller waist.

Reflecting on her journey, Pow stated, “I finally feel confident in my own skin.” While she earns approximately £110,000 per month, she expressed regret about her decision to have surgery in Turkey.

“It’s so much easier to book abroad – but that’s the problem. In Australia, you have to jump through hoops, answer mental health questions, and even have a cooling-off period,” she explained. “It’s stricter, but it means you get the right results.”

Her experience serves as a cautionary tale for others considering cosmetic surgery overseas, underscoring the importance of prioritizing safety and quality over cost.
