Urgent Recall of Chocolate Bars from Aldi, Lidl, and Home Bargains
Food shoppers in the UK are urged to check their cupboards following urgent recalls for several chocolate bars and sweet products sold at major retailers, including Aldi, Lidl, and Home Bargains. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued multiple safety alerts this week, citing undeclared allergens and potential contamination as reasons for the recalls.
One notable recall involves Aldi’s Dairyfine Crispy Choc Um’s, which may contain peanuts, posing a serious health risk for individuals with peanut allergies. The FSA advises consumers: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to peanuts, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
Aldi is also withdrawing its PYB02 PANATAS Part-baked six-pack Custard Tarts due to undeclared ingredients, which include egg, milk, and wheat (gluten). The product may also contain hazelnuts, sesame, and soya, none of which are listed on the packaging. Consumers with allergies to these ingredients or those with coeliac disease should not consume the product and are encouraged to return it for a refund.
Specific Product Recalls Highlighted
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a warning regarding the Rose Halloween Spooky Tea Cakes, which were mispackaged with Rose Orchard Tea Cakes. The mispackaged product contains egg, an allergen not mentioned on the label, potentially making it unsafe for consumers allergic to or intolerant of eggs. The FSAI stated, “The above batches of Rose Halloween Spooky Tea Cakes were mispacked with Rose Orchard Tea Cakes. The product contains egg, which is not mentioned on the label. This may make the implicated batches unsafe for consumers.” The affected batches are being recalled.
In addition to these recalls, retailer TJ Morris, trading as Home Bargains, is pulling three varieties of Milka chocolate bars from shelves. The Milka Hazelnut, Milka Whole Nut, and Milka Oreo Brownie chocolates are being removed due to the absence of allergen information in English on the packaging. The FSA noted that this could pose a health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk, hazelnuts, or gluten.
Safety Concerns Prompt Immediate Action
Lidl GB has also issued a recall for its XXL Sondey Stroopwaffel with Caramel Flavour Filling & Butter, after discovering that the product may contain tiny metal fragments. The presence of metal makes the product unsafe for consumption. Customers who have purchased this item are advised not to eat it and should return it to their nearest Lidl store for a full refund.
As these recalls demonstrate, food safety remains a critical issue, and consumers are encouraged to stay informed about product safety alerts. The FSA continues to monitor these situations closely and provide updates as necessary. Those affected by these recalls can find further information on the official FSA website.
