Sainsbury’s Launches Affordable Candles Inspired by Jo Malone
Sainsbury’s has introduced a new range of candles from its Habitat collection, priced at just £3, drawing comparisons to the luxury brand Jo Malone. The launch coincides with the holiday season, making these candles appealing as affordable stocking fillers for customers looking for thoughtful gifts.
The candles have quickly gained popularity among shoppers, particularly highlighted in the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK. A user named Charlene shared her find, stating, “Any candle lovers these are reduced to £2 make nice stocking fillers I’m giving them to my cleaning clients. [From] Sainsbury’s.” Alongside her post, she included a photograph of the candles available in various fragrances, prompting enthusiastic responses from other group members.
On Sainsbury’s website, the Habitat candles are listed at £3. However, Charlene mentioned finding them at a slightly lower price at her local shop, suggesting consumers might benefit from exploring nearby stores for better deals. One commenter noted, “Wow that’s a good price for Habitat,” while another remarked, “Lidl do these candles, they lovely.” Another user expressed their fondness for the Mandarin and Basil fragrance.
Fragrance Options and Design
The Habitat Votive Candle collection features three distinct scents: Mandarin and Basil, Rose and Amber, and Pomegranate and Baies. Each candle is housed in a frosted glass container filled with cream-coloured wax, topped with a silver lid and adorned with a black ribbon that displays the word “Habitat.”
Sainsbury’s describes its £3 Mandarin and Basil Habitat Votive Candle as having a “refreshing” aroma. The product description reads: “This lovely luxe votive candle has a citrusy aroma blended beautifully with earthy, herbal undertones.” The Rose and Amber variant is described as having a “warm and decadently sweet aroma,” while the Pomegranate and Baies candle is characterized as “rich fruity aroma that’s sweet, cool and tangy,” evoking images of juicy berries mixed with floral notes.
At a weight of 60g, the Habitat candles offer significant value when compared to their luxury counterparts. For instance, Jo Malone’s Pomegranate Noir candle, which weighs 65g, retails for £28, illustrating a potential savings of £25 for consumers choosing Sainsbury’s option.
Background on Habitat and Sainsbury’s
The Habitat brand became part of Sainsbury’s portfolio on September 2, 2016, following the supermarket’s acquisition of Home Retail Group for £1.4 billion. Home Retail Group previously owned both Habitat and the Argos brand, enhancing Sainsbury’s offering in home goods.
As consumers increasingly seek budget-friendly alternatives without compromising on quality, Sainsbury’s new candle collection is positioned to meet this demand, providing an accessible option for those looking to indulge in festive home fragrances.
