Piers Morgan Reveals Jeremy Clarkson’s Punch and Family Fallout
Piers Morgan has recounted a physical altercation with Jeremy Clarkson that left his family furious. In a recent interview, Morgan discussed the incident, which took place during the British Press Awards in 2004, revealing that Clarkson punched him in the head multiple times. The confrontation reportedly stemmed from Clarkson’s request not to publish photographs of him with another woman while he was married to his now ex-wife, Frances Cain. Despite this request, Morgan, then-editor of the Daily Mirror, proceeded to publish the images.
During the interview, Morgan elaborated on the incident, emphasizing that he did not retaliate against Clarkson’s aggression. He recalled a moment when he told Clarkson, “Is that it? My three-year-old hits me harder than that,” after being hit for the third time. Morgan noted that Clarkson ended up breaking his little finger in the process, which he claimed remains “disfigured and mashed up” to this day.
Family Reactions and Aftermath
Morgan’s response to the altercation reportedly enraged his brother, an army colonel, who was upset that Morgan did not fight back. Morgan described the situation as akin to a scene from the film Bridget Jones’ Diary, where two intoxicated men engage in a comical fight. He reflected, “I didn’t hit him back because I was sober,” and explained that his brother was furious about his passive stance during the incident.
Despite the fallout, Morgan asserted that he and Clarkson have since reconciled after a decade of mutual insults. Clarkson himself addressed the altercation in a 2022 column for The Times, claiming that he did not think the fight would ever “get boring” before he accidentally broke his finger.
In a separate incident, Morgan faced backlash after swearing live on air during a debate on This Morning with Ashley James regarding the patriarchy. Morgan used a profanity that led to a quick apology on air, stating, “Sorry! I’d like to apologise for what the guest just said live on air.” The show’s host, Ben Shephard, noted that Morgan would not be invited back for at least three weeks, suggesting that the reprimand could extend even longer.
Despite these controversies, Morgan’s candid recounting of his encounter with Clarkson offers a glimpse into the often tumultuous world of celebrity interactions, where personal disputes can quickly escalate into public spectacle.
