Manchester United Target Antoine Semenyo Amid Release Clause News
Manchester United have been placed on alert regarding the potential signing of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, following reports about a release clause in his new contract. The 25-year-old player, who finished the previous season with an impressive tally of 11 goals, has started this campaign strongly, scoring six times already. Semenyo recently signed a five-year deal with Bournemouth, solidifying his future at the club amid interest from several top teams.
The club confirmed Semenyo’s contract extension earlier in the transfer window, coinciding with interest from United’s Premier League rivals, Liverpool. According to talkSPORT, Bournemouth included the release clause in his contract as a strategic move to secure his long-term commitment after his standout performances last season. While the exact details of the clause remain undisclosed, an asking price of approximately £75 million has been suggested.
Interest in Semenyo is not new. Arsenal had shown interest last season, but their summer signings, including Ebere Eze and Noni Madueke, have led to a cooling of those links. Despite bolstering their attack with the additions of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, Manchester United continues to be linked with the Ghanaian forward. There have also been rumors of interest from Tottenham, although it is unclear if Bournemouth’s acquisition of Semenyo’s international teammate, Mohammed Kudus, will influence their pursuit.
Semenyo has also been active on the international stage, contributing to Ghana’s success in the World Cup qualifying campaign. He played a crucial role in securing victories against the Central African Republic and Comoros, helping to qualify the Black Stars for the upcoming tournament in North America next summer. This achievement marks a significant turnaround for the team, which had struggled previously, failing to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Reflecting on his development at Bournemouth, Semenyo stated, “I’ve grown so much at the club, both on and off the pitch, and I’m really happy to have signed ahead of returning for pre-season.” He expressed gratitude for the support from fans, staff, and teammates, emphasizing his excitement to continue working hard as the new season approaches.
Semenyo started the current season with strong performances, including a two-goal outing at Anfield against Liverpool on the opening day. He also scored against Brighton and Leeds and contributed significantly in a thrilling match against Fulham prior to the international break, where he had two goals and an assist.
Cherries manager Andoni Iraola praised Semenyo’s growth, stating, “He is in a very good spot, he is improving every season. I think he has confidence and we have to keep him there and encourage him to improve areas that he can improve. Now he is a player that is making the difference.”
As the transfer window continues, the situation surrounding Semenyo and Manchester United remains closely watched by football fans and analysts alike.
