Dominic Chinea, known for his role on the popular television series *The Repair Shop*, has made a significant change in his career and personal life by relocating his workshop and family from Kent to Cornwall. He describes this move as a “life-changing” decision that has profoundly impacted his professional journey.

Reflecting on the transition, Chinea stated, “It is completely life-changing. It really is. I’m never moving again.” The metalwork expert acknowledged the challenges associated with relocating, admitting, “It was stressful, but having that workshop at home has been a dream for so long.” Despite the difficulties, including ongoing renovations—”I’m still shoveling cow poo out where all my tools are”—Chinea expresses gratitude for the opportunity to create a workspace that aligns with his passions.

Chinea joined *The Repair Shop* in 2017, initially behind the scenes. His rise to becoming a main presenter was unexpected. “I was at my workshop in Hackney Wick, making props… but never in a million years did I think I would end up on camera,” he shared. His journey highlights the importance of seizing opportunities when they arise, a sentiment he encourages in others.

New Campaign to Promote Sustainability

In addition to his personal changes, Chinea is now collaborating with Smart Energy GB to address sustainability issues in the UK. Recent research from Smart Energy GB reveals that 39% of individuals admit to discarding items that could have been repaired, leading to an average waste of £163 on replacements. Despite this, 75% of respondents expressed a preference for durable products.

Chinea emphasizes the significance of this campaign, stating, “I’ve spent a lot of my time helping and supporting new business owners and small craft people.” His experiences resonate with the hurdles many face in starting and maintaining a business. “I want to try and help so they don’t make some of the mistakes I made when I first got my very first workshop in London.”

He views this campaign as an opportunity to assist small businesses during challenging times. “By having a smart meter installed, you can keep an eye on costs and overheads, which is only a good thing,” he explained. “Every penny counts, and every penny helps with a new small business.”

Chinea’s transition to Cornwall and his partnership with Smart Energy GB reflect a commitment to sustainability and community support. His journey serves as an inspiration for those navigating their paths in both personal and professional realms. As he continues to adapt to his new environment, his focus remains on creating a positive impact within the community and encouraging responsible consumption among consumers.
