Tesco Issues Urgent Recall of Free From Breadcrumbs Over Health Risk

Tesco has announced an urgent recall of its own brand Free From Breadcrumbs due to a significant health risk. The product contains wheat, which is not indicated on the label, posing a threat to individuals with allergies or intolerances to wheat or gluten, as well as those diagnosed with coeliac disease.

According to the supermarket chain, approximately one in 100 people in the UK suffers from coeliac disease, a condition where the immune system reacts negatively to gluten, leading to damage in the small intestine. The Food Standards Agency issued a notice stating, “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, or coeliac disease, do not eat it. Instead, return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. No receipt is required.”

The recall specifically affects 170g packs of Free From Breadcrumbs, with all date and batch codes included in the notice. Tesco has confirmed that no other products under its brand are involved in this recall. A spokesperson for the company expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to customers.

Coeliac disease may lead to additional health challenges, including fatigue, unexplained weight loss, an itchy rash, and infertility.
