Marcus Rashford Shines with Two Goals in Barcelona’s Victory
Marcus Rashford made a striking impact in his first Champions League match with Barcelona, scoring two goals to lead his team to a 2-1 victory over Newcastle at St James’ Park on September 18, 2025. The England forward, who has recently transitioned from Manchester United to the Catalan club, expressed his enthusiasm for his new environment after the match.
Rashford’s journey to Barcelona began after a challenging period at Manchester United, where he struggled to find his place under coach Ruben Amorim. Following a loan spell at Aston Villa, the 27-year-old joined Barcelona for the current season. After a slow start in La Liga, where he went goal-less for four outings, Rashford found his form in Europe.
The match against Newcastle marked a turning point for Rashford. He initially had a quiet game, but he broke the deadlock with a well-placed header in the 58th minute. His second goal was a highlight reel moment, showcasing his skill with a spectacular dipping shot from outside the penalty area.
Rashford’s performance earned him the Player of the Match accolade, reflecting his significant contribution to Barcelona’s first European outing of the season. After the match, he shared his thoughts on adapting to life in Catalonia, describing the experience as “amazing” and “refreshing.”
“I’m enjoying it all and I think it’s making me a better player,” he told TNT Sports. Rashford noted the differences in style compared to his previous club, highlighting the youthful exuberance and confidence of his new teammates.
“I’m full of excitement,” he added. “The quality we’ve got in the team, that excites me alone. It’s refreshing to play with these guys.”
Rashford also praised his new manager, Hansi Flick, emphasizing the positive atmosphere within the team. “He’s a top coach, top man manager,” Rashford stated. “He’ll be delighted today with the three points and the confidence that the team showed.”
Flick’s approach has rejuvenated Rashford’s confidence, as evidenced by his impressive goal-scoring display against Newcastle. The forward expressed clear ambitions for the season, particularly in the Champions League. “It’s only to win it, nothing else is on our minds,” he declared.
Barcelona’s victory not only boosts the morale of the team but also sets the tone for their campaign in the prestigious tournament. As Rashford noted, the competition will be tough, but the team aims to build on last year’s near success and advance further this time around.
With Rashford’s talent now on full display, Barcelona fans can look forward to an exciting season ahead.
