Ego Nwodim Bids Emotional Farewell to SNL After Seven Seasons

Ego Nwodim, a prominent star of Saturday Night Live, has announced her departure from the iconic sketch show after an impressive seven-season run. In a heartfelt message shared with her 554,000 Instagram followers, the 37-year-old comedian expressed the difficulty of saying goodbye, stating, “The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight.” Her decision marks her exit before the show’s upcoming 51st season.
Nwodim is the fifth cast member to confirm their departure from SNL this year. Earlier in August 2023, Devon Walker, Michael Longfellow, Emil Wakim, and Heidi Gardner also announced they would not be returning, raising questions about the future dynamics of the ensemble cast.
Fans and colleagues alike expressed their shock and sadness over Nwodim’s announcement. Fellow comedian and former cast member Cecily Strong took to social media to share her sentiments. She stated, “I just texted you but I also want to say it loud and proud here: it was an honor and total joy to get to work with you. One of the best to ever do it.”
Bowen Yang, another popular figure from the show, shared a tribute on his Instagram story, simply captioning a photo of Nwodim with the words: “The best.” This sentiment was echoed by former cast member Molly Kearney, who commented on Nwodim’s post, saying, “Baby, baby, baby!!! You’re a star and made your mark HUGE. And it is very fun out here!!!”
Nwodim joined SNL in 2018, quickly establishing herself as a versatile performer known for her comedic timing and memorable characters. Her departure follows a series of changes within the show’s lineup, with multiple cast members choosing to pursue new opportunities. The shake-up has left fans wondering how the show will adapt as it prepares for its new season.
As Nwodim embarks on the next chapter of her career, her contributions to SNL will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact. The comedian’s ability to connect with audiences and her unique comedic voice have made her a beloved figure in the show’s history.
While the 51st season approaches, the remaining cast and crew will be tasked with carrying on the legacy of the show, all the while navigating the changes brought by the recent departures. Fans eagerly await to see how the show will evolve and who will fill the void left by Nwodim and her fellow cast members.
