Construction is set to commence early next year on a new housing development in Cossington, Leicestershire. The project, approved by the Charnwood Borough Council, will introduce 130 new homes to the village, which currently has a population of fewer than 600 residents. The development will feature a mix of maisonettes, bungalows, and traditional houses, catering to various housing needs.

Located on the eastern edge of Cossington, off Main Street, the project will occupy 24 acres and include significant public spaces. Among these will be a children’s play area and a network of footpaths, ensuring that residents have access to outdoor recreational facilities. The development will also maintain a public right of way along its western boundary. Furthermore, plans have been made for the expansion of Cossington Primary School, reflecting the anticipated growth in local population.

Bellway East Midlands is responsible for the construction, with work scheduled to begin in the New Year. Sales for the first homes are expected to launch in September 2026. According to Steve Smith, Sales Director for Bellway East Midlands, the development is designed to be a desirable neighborhood, combining well-planned layouts with ample open space.

Of the 130 homes, 52 will be classified as affordable, aimed at providing low-cost rental options or shared ownership opportunities. Smith emphasized the importance of including affordable housing within the development, stating, “With 40 percent of the properties designated for shared ownership or affordable rent, the development will bring opportunities for people who may not yet be able to afford to buy a property at full price.”

This initiative follows another housing project announced in October 2023, where nearly 60 homes are set to be built to the south of Cossington by Charles Church North Midlands, part of the Persimmon Homes group. These developments indicate a growing demand for housing in the area, aligning with broader regional trends.

As the construction phase approaches, residents and stakeholders look forward to the positive impact these new homes will have on the community, enhancing both the local economy and the quality of life for future residents.
