An exhibition titled “Colors of Recovery” opened last night at the Art Gallery in Podgorica, presenting a unique perspective on the lives of patients from the Day Hospital at the Psychiatry Clinic of the Clinical Centre of Montenegro. The artworks, created through occupational and creative therapies, go beyond mere visual forms. They embody personal narratives of recovery, the transformative power of creativity, and the critical importance of mental health awareness.

Dr. Aleksandar Popović, the Director of the Psychiatry Clinic, emphasized the crucial role creativity plays in the healing process. He remarked that recovery is not solely about diagnosis and treatment but also involves the quality of relationships and the dedication of staff towards patients.

“This exhibition illustrates how art can serve as a powerful therapeutic tool,” Dr. Popović stated. “It reflects the deep connections that patients make with themselves and with others during their recovery journey.”

The Day Hospital recently commenced operations, and Dr. Aleksandar Radović, the Director of the Clinical Centre, highlighted the significance of modern approaches in mental health treatment. He pointed out that the exhibition is one of many initiatives aimed at fostering a more understanding and responsible society.

“This is just one example of occupational therapy that shows how we must evolve as a community,” said Radović. “Understanding and addressing mental health issues is essential. Some individuals can cope on their own, while others need support. There’s no shame in seeking help.”

Dr. Tea Dakić, the Head of the Day Hospital, explained that the title “Colors of Recovery” emerged organically. She noted that recovery is multifaceted and occurs in various shades, as reflected in the diverse colors, textures, and strokes of the artworks on display.

“Recovery is not only about clinics, consultations, and medication,” Dakić added. “It is also about the profound connections we create with ourselves and others. It is within these spaces that the magic of recovery occurs, showcasing the resilience of human potential and creativity.”

The exhibition also serves a humanitarian purpose, with all proceeds from the sale of artworks directed towards purchasing materials for therapeutic activities and further supporting patients. The organizers include the Clinical Centre of Montenegro’s Psychiatry Clinic, the Day Hospital Department, the Secretariat for Culture, and the Public Institution Museums and Galleries of Podgorica.

Visitors can experience the “Colors of Recovery” exhibition today from 17:00 to 21:00, providing an opportunity to engage with the powerful messages conveyed through art and to support mental health initiatives in the community.
