Investigation Launched into Newborn’s Death at Niksic Hospital

The Higher State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica has initiated an investigation following the tragic death of a newborn at the Niksic General Hospital. An autopsy has been ordered, and the findings have been submitted to the prosecutor’s office for further examination.

As part of the investigation, authorities have requested additional forensic analysis from the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Belgrade. The goal of this expert assessment is to determine the cause of the infant’s death, which occurred on October 25, 2023.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the case is currently in the investigative phase. Following the receipt of the new findings and opinions, they will take all necessary measures in accordance with the law to make further decisions regarding the case.

In a related development, Vojislav Šimun, the Minister of Health, announced that two nurses involved in the case have been suspended. Additionally, one of the nurses has been dismissed from her position.
