Art Exhibition “Colors of Recovery” Showcases Healing Through Creativity
An exhibition titled “Colors of Recovery” opened on March 15, 2024, at the Art Gallery “Art” in Podgorica. This unique showcase features artworks created by patients from the Day Hospital of the Psychiatry Clinic at the Clinical Centre of Montenegro. The pieces, developed through occupational and creative therapy, offer a glimpse into the personal journeys of recovery, emphasizing the significance of creativity in mental health.
Dr. Aleksandar Popović, Director of the Psychiatry Clinic, highlighted the crucial role of creativity in the healing process. He stated, “Recovery is not just about diagnosis and therapy; it involves a quality relationship and the dedication of staff to the patients.” The exhibition serves not only as an artistic endeavor but also as a testament to the resilience and strength found in personal expression.
The opening ceremony featured remarks from Dr. Aleksandar Radović, Director of the Clinical Centre. He noted that the Day Hospital has recently commenced operations and underscored the importance of contemporary approaches to mental health treatment. “This is just one of the occupational therapies, illustrating how our society should evolve into a modern and responsible one,” Radović explained. He emphasized the need for understanding that everyone faces challenges, some of which can be addressed independently, while others require support.
Dr. Tea Dakić, Head of the Day Hospital, elaborated on the exhibition’s theme. She stated, “The title ‘Colors of Recovery’ suggests that recovery is not one-dimensional or monochromatic; it unfolds in various shades.” The artworks reflect a spectrum of colors, textures, and strokes, symbolizing the multifaceted nature of recovery. Dakić expressed that healing extends beyond clinical settings and medications, highlighting the profound connections with oneself and others as essential elements of the recovery journey.
The exhibition also carries a humanitarian aspect, with all proceeds from the sale of the artworks directed towards purchasing materials for therapeutic work and providing continued support for patients. The organizers include the Clinical Centre of Montenegro’s Psychiatry Clinic, the Day Hospital Department, the Secretariat for Culture, and the Public Institution Museums and Galleries of Podgorica.
“Colors of Recovery” will remain open to the public, allowing visitors to engage with the artworks and the messages they convey. The exhibition hours are from 17:00 to 21:00, offering a chance for the community to witness the powerful intersection of art and mental health recovery.
