Moray Libraries Launch New Research Tools for Community Exploration
Moray Council libraries have introduced two significant research tools aimed at enhancing access to historical information for their members. Library users can now explore the British Newspaper Archive and Ancestry Library Edition, providing unique opportunities to delve into history and genealogy.
The British Newspaper Archive offers free access to millions of newspaper articles from around the world. With a library membership card, users can conduct free searches and view historical newspapers directly from local libraries. This resource allows individuals to explore a vast array of topics and events documented over the years, enhancing their understanding of the past.
In addition, the Ancestry Library Edition enables users to trace their family histories. This tool is now available at all Moray libraries and includes comprehensive UK records related to births, deaths, marriages, military service, and more. It also features vital documents such as UK census records and parish records, as well as immigration and emigration records.
Library members can take advantage of the library’s PCs, which are available for free use. However, it is advisable to book in advance to ensure access. Alternatively, users can connect to the library’s public Wi-Fi and utilize these resources on their personal devices.
Cllr Kathleen Robertson, who chairs Moray Council’s Education, Children’s and Leisure Services committee, expressed enthusiasm for the new digital offerings. “We’re delighted to offer these new digital resources to our community,” she stated. “Whether you’re researching your family tree or exploring historical events, these tools provide a wealth of information right at your fingertips.”
These additions reflect Moray Council’s commitment to providing residents with valuable educational resources. By integrating advanced research tools, the council aims to foster a deeper understanding of history and personal heritage, ultimately enriching the local community. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these tools to enhance their research and exploration efforts.
