The highly anticipated meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to take place in Alaska on March 15, 2024. The discussions will commence in the late morning local time, equating to 3:30 p.m. in Washington, D.C., and 9:30 p.m. in Brussels. This summit aims to address critical issues, particularly the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

According to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, the meeting will begin with a private one-on-one conversation between the two leaders, attended only by translators. Following this initial dialogue, the discussions will expand to include their respective delegations and will culminate in a working breakfast. Ushakov highlighted that the agenda will focus heavily on the resolution of the “Ukrainian crisis,” building on previous discussions held with Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff.

Delegation Details and Discussion Points

The Russian delegation will feature prominent officials, including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Defense Minister Andrey Belousov, and Finance Minister Anton Siluanov. Siluanov is specifically responsible for addressing the Russian response to Western sanctions. Additionally, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian sovereign wealth fund, will participate in the talks alongside Ushakov.

Ushakov indicated that discussions will also cover trade, economic cooperation, and issues related to global security. The Kremlin has expressed that the timing of the meeting’s conclusion will be flexible, depending on the flow of negotiations. “There are, of course, time parameters, but when they will end — this will depend, first of all, on the presidents,” Ushakov stated. He also noted that the Russian delegation would depart the United States immediately following the conclusion of talks.

A joint press conference is expected to follow the summit, allowing both leaders to share their insights and outcomes from the discussions. This pivotal meeting comes at a time when international relations between the U.S. and Russia are under significant scrutiny, particularly regarding the conflict in Ukraine.

As the world watches closely, the results of this summit could have far-reaching implications for both nations and their respective roles on the global stage.
