Stratford Implements Safety Measures to Secure Town Centre

Stratford town centre is undergoing significant safety enhancements this summer, driven by a concerted initiative aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour, serious violence, and retail crime. The initiative, dubbed Safer Streets Summer, is part of a broader national campaign coordinated by the Home Office and will run until the end of September.

Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe recently engaged with local officers to assess the initiative’s impact on community concerns. Stratford is one of seven locations across Warwickshire benefiting from focused efforts to foster a safer environment. The programme involves collaboration among various partners, including local businesses, residents, and law enforcement, to deliver visible patrols and proactive engagement.

“Enhancing neighbourhood policing is a key priority within my Police and Crime Plan,” Seccombe stated. “I am thrilled to see first-hand the benefits our town centres receive from neighbourhood officers and partner agencies being out on patrol to tackle and prevent local issues.” He emphasized the importance of addressing community concerns regarding anti-social behaviour and retail crime, noting the positive effects of proactive patrols in providing visibility and reassurance.

Collaborative Efforts for Community Safety

Stratford’s Safer Neighbourhood Inspector Jake Kibblewhite reflected on the dedication of the local Safer Neighbourhood Team. He highlighted their efforts to curb crime and collaborate with various agencies, including the Business Improvement District and Stratford District Council. “They go out of their way to make themselves available for anyone in Stratford with concerns,” Kibblewhite said.

The local community is encouraged to stay connected with the team through their communication channels, including Warwickshire Connected and their active Facebook page.

Community safety spokesperson for Stratford District Council, Coun Dale Bridgewater, reiterated the importance of keeping town centre streets safe. “This is critical to the quality of life of local residents and the local economy. It is a hugely important task and one that takes the efforts and expertise of a range of agencies,” he stated, commending the collaboration among local authorities and the police.
