Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has publicly denied rumors regarding his potential defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). His remarks came during a press conference following the inaugural meeting of the Accommodation Sub-Committee for the upcoming national convention of the PDP.

Adeleke, who serves as the Deputy Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee, emphasized his commitment to the PDP and its ongoing efforts to resolve internal conflicts. “I have no plans, now or in the near future, to leave the PDP,” he stated. The convention is scheduled for October 15-16, 2023, and Adeleke is optimistic that the party will emerge stronger from its current challenges.

Addressing the speculation about his ties to the APC, Adeleke reassured supporters that attending social events with friends from the rival party does not indicate any intent to switch allegiances. “If I have friends in the APC and they invite me to a wedding or social function, I will attend. That doesn’t mean I’m joining them,” he remarked.

The governor reiterated his role within the PDP, stating, “As we speak, I am the Deputy Chairman of our convention, and I remain a loyal member of the PDP.” He also chairs the Accommodation Committee, tasked with ensuring the smooth execution of the convention.

Adeleke acknowledged the political landscape, noting that defections among party members are common. “Many people from other parties are also defecting; that’s politics. Nobody knows what will happen tomorrow, but everyone has the right to do as they wish,” he explained.

The governor’s focus remains on fostering unity and organization within the party. “By God’s grace, our convention will be a great success, and the PDP will continue to grow from strength to strength,” he concluded.

As the PDP prepares for its national convention, Adeleke’s reaffirmation of loyalty aims to quell any concerns about potential party fragmentation and reaffirm the party’s commitment to its core values and objectives.
