Young carers in Wrexham are taking the lead in shaping a new celebration event scheduled for early 2026. This initiative, in collaboration with Done Together CIC, a social enterprise aimed at supporting businesses, and Credu, which assists both young and adult carers, is set to highlight the contributions of these young individuals. The event will be held at Brymbo Sports Club in January and will feature a ‘Stars’ theme.

The celebration will showcase performances from young carers who are currently learning musical instruments with Wrexham Sounds. In addition to these performances, the Young Carers Choir will unite to deliver uplifting songs. According to Sally Duckers, team leader at Credu WCD, “We are celebrating the incredible contributions of young carers and young carer allies from Wrexham.”

Nominations for recognition are expected to close soon. Duckers expressed excitement about the energy being generated by this project, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the thoughtful and impactful actions of young carers and their supporters within the community. These individuals play significant roles in their families and as active citizens.

As part of the preparations, young carers are collaborating with artist Jamila Thomas from Arts Connection to create star-themed decorations and share inspirational quotes, aiming to infuse the event space with positivity. Leanne Jeffreys, an outreach worker with Credu, remarked on the creativity of the young carers, stating, “The young carers come up with brilliant ideas and are so grateful for the support friends, family, and other professionals have shown them. I am really looking forward to the evening and giving some of these amazing young people a chance to shine.”

This initiative has garnered substantial support, receiving £16,399 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The project is further backed by organizations such as Cadwyn Clwyd, AVOW, and Wrexham County Council.

Credu continues to provide crucial support for young carers across Wrexham, Conwy, and Denbighshire, ensuring that these individuals have the resources they need to thrive. As the event approaches, anticipation builds not only for the celebration itself but for the recognition of the vital role young carers play in their communities.
