The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, captured attention at a recent state banquet held at Windsor Castle, showcasing a stunning tiara valued at approximately £1 million. This event marked the royal family’s official welcome for President Trump and the First Lady Melania Trump, hosted in the elegant St George’s Hall.

For the occasion, Princess Kate chose a gold and cream lace gown designed by Phillipa Lepley, complemented by sparkling earrings and the iconic Lovers’ Knot tiara. This exquisite piece of jewelry has a rich history, originally crafted for Queen Mary in 1914 by the prestigious House of Garrard. Following Queen Mary’s passing, the tiara was inherited by Queen Elizabeth II. It has also adorned the head of Princess Diana, who was lent the tiara for her wedding day, although she opted for the Spencer tiara instead.

The Lovers’ Knot tiara is renowned not only for its beauty but also for its weight. Reports suggest that it was so heavy that it caused discomfort for Princess Diana, often resulting in headaches. According to Maxwell Stone, a jewellery expert and creative director at Steven Stone, this weightiness indicates its quality, as it is embellished with fine diamonds and pearls. Stone estimates the tiara’s worth to be around £1 million, a reflection of its historical significance and craftsmanship.

Royal Style Highlights

Earlier in the day, prior to the banquet, Princess Kate welcomed the Trumps in a striking burgundy ensemble. Her double-breasted coat dress, designed by Emilia Wickstead, was paired with chocolate-brown suede heels from Gianvito Rossi. She completed the look with a Jane Taylor London hat featuring a bow and mesh veil, alongside a quilted Chanel flap bag.

During the state banquet, Queen Camilla also made a statement in cobalt blue, wearing a gown by Fiona Clare and a sapphire tiara that was commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II in 1963. This tiara, made from an antique sapphire and diamond necklace, was first worn by Camilla at her inaugural state banquet as queen consort in 2022.

The evening not only highlighted the royal family’s enduring traditions but also showcased the elegance and historical significance of their jewelry, with each piece telling a story that spans generations. The blend of modern fashion and royal heritage continues to captivate audiences worldwide, reinforcing the allure of the British monarchy.
