In 1948, Stewart, often referred to as “Jimmy,” attended a dinner party hosted by friends Gary and Veronica “Rocky” Cooper. Initially hesitant to go, he found himself captivated by Gloria, a then-little-known model aged 29. Their conversation sparked an immediate attraction, with Stewart later reflecting, “For me, it had been love at first sight.” He painted a vivid picture of his feelings, describing her as someone who would look “at home on a sailboat or a raft.”
