British Luxury Pyjama Designer Derek Rose Passes Away at 93
Derek Rose, the esteemed British luxury pyjama designer, has passed away at the age of 93. His death occurred on August 29, 2025, and marks the end of a distinguished career creating sleepwear for numerous celebrities and public figures. Rose was the founder and chairman of his eponymous brand, which has gained recognition for its high-quality craftsmanship and stylish designs.
Throughout his career, Rose dressed a variety of iconic stars, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Harry Styles, Eddie Redmayne, and Sarah Jessica Parker. His creations were also famously worn by members of the British Royal Family. Notably, former U.S. President Gerald Ford, as well as music legends John Lennon and Yoko Ono, chose to wear matching his-and-hers pyjamas from his collection.

Under Rose’s leadership, the brand twice received the prestigious Queen’s Award for Export, recognizing its contributions to British business and craftsmanship. In 1996, he was elected chair of the British Menswear Guild, where he became an advocate for British manufacturing. This role allowed him to represent British fashion internationally, including an appearance alongside the late Queen Elizabeth II at the International Menswear Exhibition.
His company released a statement describing Rose as “a mentor, a gentleman and a friend.” The statement conveyed the profound sense of loss felt by his colleagues: “It is with deep sadness that we share the news that our founder and chairman, Derek Peter Rose, passed away on 29 August 2025, surrounded by his family. Derek was not only the heart of our company but also a towering figure in British menswear.”
Rose’s influence extended beyond mere fashion; he played a significant role in promoting British craftsmanship on a global stage. His dedication to quality and design set a standard in the luxury sleepwear market and inspired many in the industry.
