Nicola Sturgeon Shares Her Go-To Hangover Remedy on Podcast
Former First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, recently revealed her top hangover remedy during an appearance on the podcast Comfort Eating with Grace Dent. Known for her straightforward approach, Sturgeon shared that after a night of drinking, she relies on a classic Scottish combination: a cold can of Irn-Bru and a roll with square sausage.
While discussing her favourite foods, Sturgeon reflected on her limited culinary skills, admitting that the only dish she feels confident cooking is beans on toast topped with cheese. “It’s the only dish that I’m capable of cooking with any aptitude,” she noted, highlighting how this comfort food became a staple during her time in office, especially when faced with the monotony of hotel meals.
Sturgeon elaborated on her hangover cure, stating, “When I think of Irn-Bru, it’s the colour of it that comes into my head.” She firmly believes it is among the best remedies for hangovers, saying, “A cold can of Irn-Bru and roll and square sausage and you’re cured.”
Reflections on Scottish Cuisine
During her conversation, Sturgeon also touched on the infamous Scottish “munchie box,” a takeout option packed with deep-fried delights including kebab meat and battered goods. She remarked, “Scotland is a wonderful place, but I suspect that this love for stodgy deep-fried food has probably come from comfort eating.” However, she expressed her appreciation for traditional Scottish fare, particularly fish, which she described as “one of the greatest food products to come out of Scotland.”
Sturgeon’s insights into Scottish cuisine resonate with many, capturing the essence of comfort food cherished by locals. Her candidness about her cooking abilities and preferences adds a relatable touch to her public persona.
New Literary Endeavours
In addition to her culinary revelations, Sturgeon announced plans to write her debut novel. This news follows the recent success of her memoir, which has topped bestseller lists. Sturgeon expressed her hope that publicly disclosing her writing intentions will motivate her to begin the process. “I already have an idea which will be fleshed out in the coming months,” she shared, indicating her enthusiasm for this new creative venture.
Sturgeon’s blend of candid food commentary and literary aspirations showcases her multifaceted personality, providing a glimpse into her life beyond politics. As she continues to navigate her post-political career, her insights on food and writing resonate with audiences, further solidifying her connection to the public.
