Young Musicians Unite for Groundbreaking Gaelic Rap Project

A collaboration between young musicians from Edinburgh and Cork has resulted in the release of a new Gaelic rap song titled Meas Mór, which translates to “Big Respect.” This project, led by the Kabin Crew and Tinderbox Collective, aims to celebrate culture, language, and friendship through music. The song is now available on YouTube, featuring a music video filmed in both cities.
The initiative builds on the success of the Kabin Crew’s previous anthem, The Spark, which gained significant traction during the Cruinniú na nÓg event last year. Both the song and its accompanying video showcase the rich cultural ties between Ireland and Scotland while highlighting the talents of young artists.
Funded by the Foras na Gaeilge – Colmcille Fund, and with support from Barr na gCnoc and University College Cork, this project connects the two communities through online collaboration. The artists involved have utilized digital platforms to create a fusion of traditional and contemporary sounds, bringing fresh energy to Gaelic music.
The release of Meas Mór not only enhances the visibility of Gaelic rap but also fosters a sense of unity among young people from diverse backgrounds. By blending Scottish and Irish influences, the project encourages a shared appreciation for linguistic and cultural heritage.
As the music scene continues to evolve, initiatives like this play a crucial role in inspiring a new generation of musicians. The collaboration serves as a testament to the power of creativity and partnership in bridging cultural divides. With its vibrant visuals and engaging sound, Meas Mór is poised to resonate with audiences across the globe.
The ongoing support from organizations such as Foras na Gaeilge and University College Cork is vital in promoting and preserving Gaelic culture. This project exemplifies how young artists can leverage modern mediums to express their identity and connect with others, reinforcing the importance of cultural exchange in today’s world.
The music video for Meas Mór is available for viewing on YouTube, inviting audiences to explore the artistic collaboration between Edinburgh and Cork. Through this innovative project, the Kabin Crew and Tinderbox Collective are paving the way for future generations to celebrate their cultural heritage through music.
