Strictly Come Dancing Star Arrested on Rape Allegations
One of the stars from the popular BBC show Strictly Come Dancing has been arrested on August 22, 2023, amid allegations of rape and non-consensual intimate image abuse. The unidentified male suspect is currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police, which follows a separate inquiry led by the BBC concerning claims of drug abuse among the show’s participants.
According to a spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police, officers confirmed the arrest and emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages. “This is a joint investigation… and we urge anyone with any information to come forward,” the spokesperson stated. The alleged victim is receiving support from specially trained officers.
The ongoing situation marks one of the most significant crises for the BBC in recent years. This incident follows a series of scandals that have involved the show, including accusations against Giovanni Pernice, who stepped down last year after allegations of bullying and harassment surfaced regarding his dance partner, Amanda Abbington. Although some complaints were upheld, Pernice was cleared of the most serious allegations in a BBC inquiry.
Recent Controversies Linked to the Show
The controversy surrounding Strictly Come Dancing has not been limited to Pernice. In the same series, professional dancer Graziano Di Prima was removed from the show due to claims of misconduct towards his partner, Zara McDermott, during training. Earlier this year, Wynne Evans, a Welsh opera singer, departed from the show’s dance tour after facing accusations of making inappropriate remarks.
Adding to the turmoil, Kristian Nairn, known for his role in Game of Thrones, recently withdrew from the show after just one week of rehearsals. Nairn shared his decision through an emotional video on Instagram, revealing that he had been experiencing a high level of stress and grief. He stated, “For the first time, it’s manifested physically and it’s caused a spike in my vitals.”
The BBC has not commented on the ongoing police investigation, stating that it would not be appropriate to discuss matters that are still under inquiry.
As the show prepares for its upcoming season, the implications of these allegations and controversies may have a significant impact on its reputation and viewer engagement. With an ongoing police investigation and a series of high-profile exits, Strictly Come Dancing faces a challenging path ahead.
