Marti Pellow, the former lead singer of the band Wet Wet Wet, has confirmed an astonishing story about his time in the music industry that has left many astonished. During an appearance on BBC Radio, he disclosed that at the height of the band’s fame, he arranged for takeaway curries from Glasgow to be delivered via private jet.

Jet-Setting for Takeaway Curries

The revelation came when Pellow spoke with BBC Radio DJ Gary Davies. When asked about the tale of ordering curries from his favorite Indian restaurant, Pellow confirmed its authenticity, stating, “I would phone the guy up and say, ‘Listen, do you do home delivery?’ After he said yes, I asked him if he had a passport.” He detailed how he would instruct the restaurant to prepare the food and send his jet to collect it, adding, “We were waiting on the tarmac with knives and forks.”

This extravagant approach to takeaway dining took place during the band’s peak in the 1990s, particularly in 1994 when their hit song “Love Is All Around” dominated the charts for an impressive 15 weeks. With the success of the song, Pellow did not hesitate to splurge on his culinary cravings, describing the experience as living the dream. “I’m not saying we foolishly squandered money there by any stretch of the imagination but we did need a wee talking to,” he remarked.

Davies, taken aback by Pellow’s revelation, responded, “Oh my word, I can’t believe that,” humorously suggesting that he might call on the singer for curry deliveries in the future. Pellow, who has consistently praised his hometown’s culinary offerings, referred to Glasgow as the “curry capital of Europe.”

Reflections on Fame and Future Performances

As Wet Wet Wet soared to success, Pellow managed to accumulate significant wealth, reportedly having £3 million in the bank alongside a collection of luxury cars. Despite this success, he candidly admitted in a previous interview that he grew tired of “Love Is All Around.” He noted, “In the worst week, it was selling 150,000 copies. I thought, ‘Who on earth is buying this?’ We eventually deleted it. It was time to put it to bed and give someone else a shot.”

Looking ahead, Marti Pellow is set to perform at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow later this year as part of his “Love Is All Around” 30th Anniversary Tour in November 2024. This upcoming tour promises a nostalgic experience for fans, celebrating the enduring legacy of one of the UK’s most beloved songs.
