Ghent Startup Donna Secures $4.8M to Revolutionize Field Sales
A promising startup based in Ghent, Belgium, has successfully raised $4.8 million in seed funding to enhance its AI-driven assistant tailored for field sales teams. Founded by Nicolas Christiaen, Jonas Deprez, and Xander Berkein, Donna aims to streamline administrative tasks that often bog down sales representatives who spend significant time on the road.
Field sales teams frequently face challenges when using traditional sales tools, which are predominantly designed for office environments. This leads to inefficient administrative work, cumbersome mobile applications, and incomplete customer relationship management (CRM) records. Donna addresses these hurdles by automating essential processes such as meeting preparation, note-taking, real-time CRM updates, and post-meeting follow-ups.
According to feedback from users, Donna has enabled sales teams to reduce administrative tasks by up to 75% and has achieved a tenfold increase in CRM adoption rates. Additionally, companies utilizing Donna report a 20% increase in conversion rates. In a recent interview, Christiaen and Deprez shared their motivation behind creating Donna, stating, “We experienced firsthand the limitations of existing sales tools during our own travels. We recognized that field sales is much more complex than just office sales on wheels, prompting us to develop a solution specifically for mobile teams.”
Transforming Field Sales with AI
Donna’s primary mission is to enhance the quality of human interactions in B2B sales by leveraging AI to handle routine tasks. This allows sales representatives to concentrate on engaging with customers and closing deals. “Our goal is to ensure salespeople arrive at meetings well-prepared and retain crucial details afterward. With Donna, even the smallest context—like the initial handshake to the final deal—is captured,” noted the founders.
The AI assistant operates as an always-on, multimodal tool, designed to respond to salespeople’s needs while they are on the move. It integrates seamlessly with popular platforms such as Salesforce, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365, HubSpot, Outlook, and Google Calendar, supporting over 40 languages. The technology provides personalized briefings prior to meetings, captures detailed conversations automatically, and drafts follow-up emails with minimal manual input.
Deprez emphasized the importance of this integration, stating, “At Donna, we believe that B2B business will always require human-to-human interaction. Our AI is designed to enhance that experience, not replace it. We have already demonstrated that AI can add value quickly and effectively in real-world operations.”
Commitment to Diversity and Future Growth
During discussions about the company culture, Christiaen and Deprez revealed that over 40% of their engineering and product team comprise women or individuals from minority backgrounds. They consider diversity a vital driver of creativity and innovation, essential for developing globally relevant products.
Looking ahead, Donna plans to expand its market presence and deepen its integration with enterprise systems. The company aims to solidify its position as the preferred AI assistant for field sales teams worldwide. “In the coming year, we are focusing on expanding into North America and launching new integrations that will redefine productivity for sales teams on the go,” they concluded.
Will Prendergast, a partner at Frontline Ventures, highlighted the significance of Donna’s offering, stating, “Sales representatives want to spend their time selling, not sifting through CRMs. For field-based reps, the administrative burden is even heavier, leaving less time for note-taking and follow-ups. Donna’s solution fits how field sales actually operates, equipping an overlooked market with the necessary tools to focus on achieving their targets.”
With this substantial funding boost, Donna is well-positioned to make a significant impact on the field sales landscape, providing teams with the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive environment.
