Kirkby native and rising DJ, Anna Eager, is set to perform at the internationally acclaimed Creamfields festival on August 23, 2023. Eager, 32, has experienced a remarkable journey from music enthusiast to a sought-after DJ, with her recent gigs showcasing her talent in venues from Ibiza to Liverpool.

Eager’s passion for music began at a young age. She recalls recording her favorite radio tracks onto cassette tapes when she was just six years old. “I would make CDs of my favourite tracks, then it transitioned to MP3s, iPods, and eventually SoundCloud,” she shared. Her initial exposure to DJing came from attending events at clubs like Circo and Garlands, as well as festivals like Creamfields. Despite the challenges of breaking into the industry, she often found herself curating playlists for gatherings, receiving encouragement from friends to pursue DJing professionally.

The turning point for Eager came towards the end of the COVID-19 lockdown. Inspired by local DJ Billie Clements, she enrolled in DJ lessons. “I loved it,” she said, noting that the experience ignited her desire to take DJing seriously. After the lockdown restrictions lifted, she purchased her own equipment and began performing at private events for friends and family, rapidly gaining popularity.

In May 2022, Eager secured her first significant gig at a brand event for Boux Avenue in Liverpool. This opportunity prompted her to reassess her career as an architect. By July 2022, she made the leap to become a full-time DJ, a decision she describes as life-changing.

Highlights of Eager’s Career

Among her notable performances, Eager cites her debut at O Beach in Ibiza as a highlight, where she returned this summer to thrill the crowd again. She also had the opportunity to support celebrated DJ Gok Wan at Carriage Shed in Chester, but the upcoming Creamfields festival stands out as a pinnacle of her career thus far.

“I am playing on Saturday on the Main Stage (The Arc), supporting The Swedish House Mafia, MK, Clementine Douglas, and Third Party,” she exclaimed. Having attended Creamfields multiple times as a fan, Eager finds it surreal to be performing on the same stage as some of her idols. “It’s a dream come true,” she added.

When it comes to pre-performance jitters, Eager adopts a positive mindset. “I like to believe that nerves are just excitement in disguise… and I am beyond excited for it,” she stated.

Empowering Women in DJing

Eager emphasizes the growing community of female DJs in Liverpool, attributing this rise to increased visibility through social media and the availability of DJ lessons. “It’s great,” she said of the supportive network among women in the industry. “Everyone is supportive of each other, which adds to everyone’s success.”

Her musical style leans towards uplifting vocal house, infused with Balearic vibes, funk, and disco elements. She also draws inspiration from influential figures such as Avicii, Calvin Harris, and legendary musicians like Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin.

Currently, Eager holds a residency at The Ivy, a prestigious venue renowned for its vibrant atmosphere. While she is primarily focused on DJing, she is also venturing into music production. “I have stepped my foot into the production world, and there is definitely more to come from me. Watch this space,” she hinted.

Following her performance at Creamfields, Eager is scheduled to DJ at the Café Mambo Ibiza Classics takeover at Mansion in Liverpool on October 11, where she will support headliner Mark Knight.

In terms of her long-term aspirations, Eager aims to have her tracks signed and charted, while expanding her presence at events and festivals globally. With her dedication and talent, the future looks promising for this emerging DJ.
