A small aircraft made an emergency landing on the fairway of the Mona Vale Golf Club in Sydney on August 17, 2025, after losing power. Fortunately, both the pilot and the sole passenger aboard the Piper Cherokee escaped the incident without serious injuries.

The crash occurred around 14:00 local time when the plane, which had departed from Camden and was heading to Wollongong, descended rapidly onto the golf course. Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft lose altitude before it struck the ground, causing parts of the plane to scatter across the green.

Witnesses, including golfer Keanu Turnewitsch, described the shocking moment of impact. Turnewitsch noted a “nice big shadow” over the fairway just before hearing a loud crunch. He later told reporters, “All the ambulances and everything started coming past and sirens for 20, 30 minutes.” Another observer remarked that the plane “just fell from the sky,” emphasizing the dramatic nature of the crash.

Emergency services responded swiftly, with paramedics treating both men on-site for minor injuries. They were reported to be in their 50s and were able to exit the wreckage with relative ease. The swift actions of bystanders and medical personnel contributed to ensuring no serious harm came to those involved.

The aircraft sustained significant damage, particularly to its starboard wing, which was severely impacted during the landing. The landing gear appeared to have detached upon contact with the ground, further complicating the situation.

As investigations begin, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been notified of the incident. Officials are expected to examine the circumstances that led to the aircraft losing power and its subsequent emergency landing.

This incident follows another light aircraft crash reported earlier in August, where a plane was discovered in a field in Staffordshire with a broken wing and tail. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in that case as well.

Authorities continue to gather information and assess the situation surrounding the crash at Mona Vale Golf Club. This event serves as a reminder of the importance of safety in aviation and the unpredictable nature of flying.
