Formula 1 Secures Long-Term Future with New Concorde Agreement
Formula 1 has solidified its long-term future by signing a new Concorde Governance Agreement with the FIA and its eleven teams, ensuring stability and growth in the sport until 2030. This agreement, finalized alongside the Commercial Concorde Agreement announced earlier this year, marks the ninth iteration of the Concorde package in F1 history. Together, these agreements outline the distribution of revenue, governance of the championship, and resource allocation to the FIA for the upcoming seasons.
A significant aspect of this agreement involves a newly defined percentage of Formula 1’s revenues earmarked for the FIA. These funds are intended to enhance various operational areas, including race direction, stewarding, and technical development. This comes after what the parties involved described as “robust discussions” regarding the financial framework.
F1 executives emphasize that this structure provides the championship with essential stability during a time of considerable growth. The agreement lays the groundwork for investment ahead of the 2026 regulations and the anticipated entry of Cadillac as the sport’s eleventh team next season. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem expressed pride in the process, stating, “The ninth Concorde Agreement secures the FIA Formula 1 World Championship’s long-term future.”
This new framework aims to modernize regulatory, technological, and operational capabilities, thereby supporting race directors, officials, and the thousands of volunteers essential to each event. Ben Sulayem further remarked, “We are ensuring that Formula 1 remains at the forefront of technological innovation, setting new standards in global sport.”
The announcement also highlights that the agreement will facilitate continued evolution within the sport, providing thrilling technological advancements and competitive action for fans, broadcasters, and partners alike. This commitment to improvement aligns with recent calls from F1 drivers for the establishment of a permanent panel of stewards. Many in the sport believe this step is crucial to addressing the inconsistent penalties that have affected the championship throughout the past season.
As Formula 1 prepares for this new chapter, the collaboration between the FIA and the teams signals a unified effort to elevate the sport while ensuring that it remains dynamic and engaging for its global audience. The focus on stability and shared ambition reflects a collective vision for a successful future in motorsport.
