In a significant development, the Danilovgrad Police in Montenegro arrested a 57-year-old man identified as Ž.O., who is suspected of illegal possession of firearms and explosives. This arrest is part of the ongoing operation known as “Lugansk,” which has been carried out by both civil and military security sectors in Montenegro over recent months.

The police executed a search warrant at the residence of Ž.O. in Podgorica, resulting in the seizure of a CZ-brand pistol, 50 rounds of ammunition, and two firearm magazines, all found in his illegal possession. Following the collection of evidence, the man was detained at the request of the prosecutor’s office, according to a statement from the Police Administration.

Operation “Lugansk” exemplifies robust inter-institutional cooperation. It is coordinated by the Higher State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica and involves collaboration with officials from the Ministry of Defence’s Intelligence and Security Directorate, as well as the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office.

Since the inception of the operation, law enforcement has detained several individuals. Among them is Danko Savić, 61, from Danilovgrad, who faces allegations of participating in foreign armed formations. Another suspect, Dejan Braletić, 74, also from Danilovgrad, is accused of similar illegal possession charges.

As part of the broader initiative, searches were conducted at 13 locations across Nikšić, Danilovgrad, and Podgorica. Authorities recovered a substantial cache of weaponry, including 24 firearms, over 1,000 rounds of various types and calibers of ammunition, knives, bayonets, uniforms, flags, and other insignia associated with organized groups.

The operation underscores the Montenegrin government’s commitment to addressing issues related to illegal arms and enhancing public safety. The authorities continue to emphasize the importance of collaborative efforts in tackling security challenges within the nation.
