Ekiti Governor Enhances Security Measures Amid Rising Concerns
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining safety and security throughout the region amid rising concerns about criminal activities in Nigeria. Following a meeting with heads of security agencies, Oyebanji announced enhanced measures to strengthen intelligence gathering and tighten border surveillance across the state. He emphasized that his administration aims to ensure that criminal elements are unable to operate within Ekiti.
During the emergency talks held in Ikogosi-Ekiti, the governor outlined the proactive steps being taken to scale up security architecture in the state. He expressed gratitude for the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by the security agencies and reiterated the importance of inter-agency cooperation. Oyebanji stated that the meeting was part of ongoing efforts to protect residents from potential threats, particularly given the current security situation in neighboring regions.
The governor, who interrupted his leave to address the security chiefs, highlighted the paramount importance of community safety. He remarked, “We are elected to serve the people, and with what is happening around borders and neighboring states, there is a need for me to cut short the leave.” Oyebanji emphasized that the safety and wellbeing of residents are his top priorities.
In his remarks, the governor acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the national effort to enhance security across the country. He assured residents that all necessary resources would be provided to security personnel to ensure the protection of Ekiti State. “We are satisfied with the reports that we have received, and they will go back also to scale up security around the state,” he stated.
Oyebanji appealed to the community for assistance, urging residents to provide credible intelligence to support security operations. He said, “No matter how well-intentioned they are, the quality of intelligence they get is extremely important. If you see something, say something.” The governor’s call for community participation underscores the belief that effective security relies on collaboration between the public and law enforcement.
As the situation develops, Oyebanji’s administration remains focused on ensuring that Ekiti State continues to be a safe and peaceful place for all its residents.
