Montenegro’s Vukotic and Cakovic Crowned World Champions in Jiu-Jitsu
Montenegrin athletes Stefan Vukotic and Lidija Cakovic achieved remarkable success by winning the World Championship in the duo show discipline at the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand. The victory marks a significant milestone for the athletes, who previously secured a bronze medal in the duo show category earlier in the tournament.
The Budva duo triumphed over competitors from nations renowned for their jiu-jitsu expertise, including Thailand, Austria, and Italy. Their coach, Ranko Vukotic, expressed immense pride in their accomplishment, stating, “This success transcends the realm of sports and serves as an inspiration for an entire generation of young fighters in Montenegro.”
In a heartfelt statement, Ranko Vukotic noted the emotional weight of their achievements. “After yesterday’s bronze medal, which felt like gold, they have now demonstrated their ability to defeat the Thai national team, the very country from which the duo show discipline originates,” he shared.
This latest victory adds to the impressive accomplishments of Vukotic and Cakovic, following their previous titles at the World Games and European Championship, where they were also crowned champions. Despite their recent success, time for celebration is limited as both athletes prepare for another competition on the tatami in Bangkok. They will be competing in the duo classic discipline, where Ranko Vukotic anticipates another standout performance.
In addition to the achievements of Vukotic and Cakovic, another Montenegrin representative, Arso Milic, earned a bronze medal in the under 94-kilogram fighting category at the same championship. His accomplishment further highlights Montenegro’s growing presence in the sport of jiu-jitsu on an international scale.
The success of these athletes not only brings recognition to Montenegro but also fosters a sense of pride within the nation, inspiring future generations to pursue excellence in sports. As they continue to compete on the global stage, their journey represents a testament to hard work and dedication in the face of formidable competition.
