Montenegro Urged to Establish Transparent Immigration Management

Montenegro’s Preokret Movement has called for urgent reforms to create a structured and transparent immigration management system. In light of recent security concerns, the organization emphasizes the need for a clear distinction between state interests in safeguarding security and fostering a sustainable immigration policy.

According to the Preokret Movement, Montenegro must avoid allowing prejudice to spread within communities. The organization argues that this issue transcends national or religious identities; it is fundamentally about security, trust, and the rule of law.

Recognizing the significant increase in foreign nationals obtaining residency, property, or citizenship in Montenegro, Preokret highlights the lack of adequate public oversight and institutional checks. They state, “Citizens have the right to know who enters the system, under what conditions, and to be assured that individuals with criminal or corrupt ties do not infiltrate those seeking to live and work honorably.”

To address these concerns, the movement insists on implementing stringent checks on the origin of capital and personal data. They advocate for guaranteed public access and digital transparency regarding all residency and citizenship decisions. Additionally, establishing international cooperation in the exchange of security information is deemed essential for strengthening democratic control over immigration policies.

The Preokret Movement maintains that while Montenegro is open to diversity, it must also be a well-organized state. They assert, “Only through strong institutions can we protect both our citizens and those who wish to become part of our society.”
