Technical Failure Halts Bar–Bijelo Polje Train in Sozina Tunnel

A technical malfunction on the locomotive of train number 6102 caused a temporary halt to service between Bar and Bijelo Polje on March 15, 2024. The incident occurred in the Sozina Tunnel, with the train departing from Bar at 15:30. The issue was identified at approximately 16:45 while the train was still within the tunnel, according to a statement from Željeznice Crne Gore (ŽPCG).

In their announcement, ŽPCG confirmed that all safety procedures were followed. Passengers were promptly informed about the situation. As per protocol, the conductor had to exit the train to report the malfunction. The train’s engineer attempted immediate repairs, while the conductor reached a signal point to contact the relevant authorities.

Due to technical limitations within the tunnel, one of the two conductors had to leave the train to ensure communication with the necessary services. In response to the situation, assistance was arranged, and a replacement locomotive was dispatched to the scene. This replacement arrived and successfully towed the train to Sutomore station by 17:42.

Following the incident, train operations resumed. The train departed Sutomore at 18:11 with a functioning locomotive, allowing it to continue its journey to Bijelo Polje. ŽPCG assured passengers that despite the use of older locomotives, the malfunction was minor and did not compromise passenger safety.

The organization emphasized that all procedures were strictly adhered to, maintaining the highest level of safety for passengers. Regular service was resumed without further delays. To enhance safety and reliability, ŽPCG announced plans to modernize its fleet starting next year. They expressed gratitude to passengers for their understanding and patience during this incident.
